History of Aromatherapy
The word "perfume" is derived from the Latin term per fumum, which translated means "by smoke". This demonstrates the original use of aromatic plants as incense, burned on altars and other sacred places as a means of communication with the spirit world. To this day incense is still used in this way by many cultures.
